This is an Academy 1/48 Scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War II era single-seat single-engine fighter used extensively by the U.S. Army Air Force. Model kit features: Kit has engraved panel lines, detailed cockpit and wheel wells, twin-row radial engine, wing gun bay detail with separate access panels, optional open or closed intercooler doors and 2-piece optional position canopy. Also includes ample external stores: pylons (x2), 4.5" rocket launcher tubes (x2), 500 lb bombs (x2), 1000 lb bomb, 75 gallon drop tanks (x2), 150 gallon drop tanks (x2), 108 gallon paper type drop tanks (x2) and 200 gallon flat belly tank). Decals and painting reference for 2 USAAF aircraft: s/n 42-28878 'Eileen' of the 84th FS, 78th FG in England during the autumn of 1944 and 'Rabbit' of the 527th FS, 86th FG at Pisa, Italy during 1944 - includes lower fuselage invasion stripes, cowling checkers, empennage stripes and stencil data. Historical Synopsis: The P-47 was the largest single-engine fighter of the era, earning the nicknamed "Jug" by pilots who flew it. The P-47 was a formidable dogfighter, but the Jug's ruggedness and superb firepower made it an exceptional ground-attack aircraft. P-47s were fitted with a large Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp two-row 18-cylinder radial engine, which not only provided excellent horsepower but also provided Thunderbolt pilots with a shield against frontal attacks. In addition, the Jugs were armed with eight .50-caliber machine guns which were devastating against both air and ground targets.
