The SBD Dauntless saw its most significant contribution to U.S. war efforts in the Pacific during the Battle of Midway in 1942, where the SBD dive bombers dealt a devastating blow to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto?s Midway Task Force by sinking all four Japanese aircraft carriers, the Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu. The Imperial Japanese NAVY were never able to completely recover from the losses it sustained in the Battle of Midway, and the battle marked a turning point of the war in the Pacific, which resulted in the ultimate victory for the United States.
