Editorial Review
This is a HobbyBoss 1/48 Scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the F4U-4 Corsair, the final production variant of the venerable Vought F4U Corsair fighter aircraft to enter combat service during World War II. Model kit features: Kit features engraved panel lines, well appointed cockpit (including control surface linkages), fully detailed R-2800-18W radial engine, cowling with chin intake, separate control surfaces, positionable flaps, optional folded wings with wing-fold mechanism and internal wing structure, machine gun bays (with ammunition chutes, completely detailed landing gear, 2-piece canopy (with early type curved windscreen), drop tanks (x2) and 5" underwing rockets (x8). Decals and painting guide for 2 US Navy aircraft: BuNo 81048 of VF-61 on board USS Midway, 1949 and BuNo 80887 VF-22 on board USS Coral Sea, 1948. *Historical Synopsis: The F4U saw service in both World War II and the Korean War. The Corsair was a formidable fighter aircraft as it was both fast and maneuverable, thanks in large to its Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial (capable of speeds up to 400mph) and advanced aerodynamics. The F4U was universally feared by Japanese pilots, and by the end of World War II, the Corsair had accumulated an impressive 11:1 kill ratio in air-to-air engagements.
