The material is created by hot rolling multiple sheets of various stainless steel grades, forging them together with large machines. The resulting Ginsu Forged Damascus blade consists of 33 layers of stainless steel, with a core made of high-carbon Japanese VG-1 stainless steel. This core is layered with alternating sheets of Japanese high carbon 420 and low carbon 430 stainless steels during the forging process. Each blade is cut from this Damascus stainless steel sheet and sharpened to an exceptionally sharp Asian knife edge angle of 10 degrees. The blades undergo a cryogenic cooling process using liquid Nitrogen in a proprietary method, enhancing edge retention by bringing the steel molecules closer together.
