External vacuum breakers on outdoor spigots often fail prematurely & leak water excessively, especially when you have hard water, are using an irrigation timer, or have a need for an always-on water connection. Unfortunately, most spigots have special vacuum breaker threads you can't attach a hose to if you remove it. Also, vacuum breakers often have a set screw that is either corroded or broken off, making it difficult to repair or replace.
