When it was issued in 1948, Benjamin Franklin became the first person other than a president to be immortalized on a circulating U.S. coin. Even the Liberty Bell on the reverse is a “first"— all previous silver coins featured large stylized eagles (To comply with a requirement to include the national bird, a miniature eagle is adjacent to the bell).
PREMIUM CONSTRUCTED: The coin is secure in the pocket watch casing and opens to skeleton style and second sweeping hand over classic Roman numerals. Includes a useful magnifying glass. The pocket watch case measures 2 7/8" x 1 3/4" x 1/2" inches and hangs from a 14.75 inch steel fob open link chain. The snap-down case is composed of jeweler’s steel. The crown is push pull and the crystal is plastic.
