ProductDescription : Amethyst is a semi-precious stone, and a type of quartz. Often used in jewelry, the ancient Greeks thought it would keep them from getting intoxicated. It features a primary hue of light pink-violet to deep purple, and can (though not always) exhibit one or both of potential secondary hues of red and blue. Its violet color however, is due to three factors: irradiation, iron impurities, and trace elements. It was previously thought that the color could be attributed to manganese, ferric thiocyanate, and sulfur.
Until the discovery of large deposits found in Brazil, amethyst was considered to be one of the five Cardinal gems. The others are diamond, emerald, ruby, and sapphire.
