ProductDescription : Here's an advanced design 20" wine thief / test jar combo from Fermtech LTD of Canada. This device is an easy test sampler that allows you to place a hydrometer inside it, sanitize the whole thing, then pull a sample from a bucket, carboy, or barrel to take your readings. You then return the still-sterile sample to the fermenter or perhaps to a frosty wineglass... Le Voleur acts as its own sample jar. Might as well call it "Le Voyeur" because with this thief you can see everything! Works with hydrometers up to 3/4" in diameter which is most of them except some of the precision and antique ones. This device allows you to take a hydrometer reading without the interim step of transferring the wine or beer to a test cylinder AND reduces the chances of contamination. It has a valve on the bottom to stop the outflow. When you are ready to return the sample to the fermenter just depress the tip against the inside of the fermenter and the still-sterile sample will drain back right back in with virtually no product loss! We have been using a regular wine thief almost daily for years and a customer got me to try this. Wow. This is a novel innovation and it is fast too. I had been putting off taking a bunch of readings and was able to run through all of them in just a few minutes, even rinsing and sanitizing as I moved from fermenter to fermenter. Another nice thing was the reduced handling of my hydrometer, less chance of "droppage". High grade acrylic for excellent clarity. Ships in a sturdy box to arrive intact.
