The Richter Extra mortise chisels feature blades made from high-quality Chrome Vanadium (Cr-V) steel, forged using traditional drop-forging techniques to enhance strength and durability. Hardened to 62 HRc, the blades are cryogenically treated at -190°C (-310°F) to increase toughness, wear resistance, and overall performance. The fine-grinding and polishing of the blades result in a mirror-like finish, with a small taper along the length to prevent wedging in deep cuts. A front bevel of 25 degrees, with a higher secondary bevel of 30 to 35 degrees, is recommended for working with harder woods.

Handles are crafted from domestically harvested European Ash, known for its strength and beautiful grain. The ergonomic handles are sanded and hand-finished with friction shellac for comfort and control. They are reinforced with thick double solid stainless-steel ferrules and a leather washer to prevent splitting, with the top ferrule pinned for added security.
